Leadership

The church is primarily led by a group of elders, ably supported by a group of trustees.

The elders are responsible for the church’s vision and spiritual direction, its teaching, and the pastoral care of its members.

The trustees take a lead in matters relating to policies, finance, and buildings.

The fellowship also has a ‘leaders team’ who oversee a range of the church’s ministries, including youth and children’s work, outreach to the community, missions, and special events.

Chris Spracklen : Pastor

As the primary teaching pastor, Chris has a passion for carefully explaining and applying the Bible’s ageless truth and is responsible for more than half of the Sunday morning talks. He has served  MCF since September 2000 and, prior to that, pastored a similar church in Exeter. Chris has been married to Carole for 40 years and they have two married sons, two lovely daughter-in-laws, and five gorgeous grandchildren ~ one in Martock, and the other four in London, Ontario.

His recent reading includes ‘Gunning for God’, by John C. Lennox; ‘Is God anti-gay’, by Sam Allberry; and ‘More drops’, by George Verwer. He also regularly reads James Emery White’s ‘Church and Culture’ blog.

Chris is also passionate about photography and unwinds best with a camera in his hand. You can see some of his photos here: http://www.pbase.com/moorlands/  He also plays guitar and enjoys his monthly evening out with the Exeter based ‘Fun Band’.

Jamie Bruce : Youth Pastor

Jamie’s main responsibility is working with the young people in Martock – both in the church and outside of it – providing teaching and mentoring support. At MCF Jamie runs ‘Lasers’ on Sunday mornings, ‘YouthPlus’ on Sunday evenings, and ‘Oasis Cafe’ on Friday evenings. He also heads up the team that runs ‘ArchiesXtra’ at the Martock Rec each Thursday evening.

Jamie is a keen sportsman who plays golf and football. He’s married to Bec, and they have two wonderful children.                                                  Jamie left school and worked on dairy farms for nearly 10 years before he was called to youth work. Jamie then spent 2 years training in youth work with SWYM (South West Youth Ministries) whilst working in Devon. Jamie and Bec after getting married, moved to London for 4 years with Jamie working as a youth pastor before they came to Martock to work here with us.
