Can you believe it’s almost summer?! Sat here in my study with a fleecy jumper on, looking out at the overcast sky, it’s a little difficult! But June will soon be here and, before we know it, half of 2017 will be gone!
The little bird in the picture is a whinchat. It’s one of our summer visitors, having wintered in central and southern Africa. They only live a couple of years on average but most will do the return trip south and back twice, which is quite something for a creature that weighs less than an ounce!
All that reminds me of a verse from the book of Jeremiah, a book we’re working through on Sunday evenings. In chapter 8 verse 20 we read: “The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved.” Hopefully we’ve all got much longer left to live than the average whinchat! But how fruitfully will we spend the time allotted to us? And, most importantly, have we used any of it to get right with God, through faith in Jesus Christ?
