THE BOYS’ BRIGADE IN MARTOCK

Here at Martock Christian Felowship we have the 1st Martock & Hamdon Boys’ Brigade which has been running since 2000 and meets every Thursday at MCF, led by Ian Rumbelow, Elaine Seabrook, Andy Starmer and Fiona Clements.

The Juniors are for boys aged from 7-11 meets from 6.00 – 7.30pm, then the BB Discoverers for those aged from 11-14 meets from 7.30 – 9.00pm and the Seniors for those aged 15-18 continue until 9.30pm.

On a typical evening we will  play games or sport; learn new skills; undertake activities to encourage teamwork; have fun generally; a time of worship possibly in the form of a talk or a word search or quiz; art or craftwork.

Other activities include walks in the dark which are very popular! Challenge evenings; firelighting; den building; art nights; club nights; hare and hounds, wide games on Ham Hill; potted sports nights; fun sessions at swimming pool; BBQ; indoor archery.

The boys join with other groups in Somerset for area activities such as: 5-a-side football; unihoc; team games; quiz teams; cross country; adventure days at Kilve Court; canoeing; caving; climbing.

Badges are earned through the programmes of activities and awarded at the end of the year. There is a weekly team trophy as well as a termly inspection award to the boy with the highest marks.

In the Summer we take around a dozen of the boys on holiday to Swanage for 6 days sleeping in a church hall. We usually manage a barbecue on the beach as well as visits to local attractions such as Splashdown, kayaking, rib riding and walks in the local area. We join host church for worship on the Sunday morning.
